Robot International is proud to present the third annual Tribute to Johnny Cash. This very special evening is being held on Saturday September 16, 2006 at The Troubadour in Fortitude Valley, on the weekend of the Valley Fiesta.
50 Year Career
From his ground-breaking recordings in Memphis in 1955, to his multi-million-selling prison recordings of the 1960s, to the recent and highly acclaimed American Recordings with producer Rick Rubin, Johnny Cash was one of the most important and influential figures in country music with a career spanning five decades.
Walk The Line
Johnny Cash passed away in September 2003 at the age of 71, but has posthumously reached a new audience due to the release of ‘Walk The Line’, the big screen bio-pic starring Joaquin Phoenix and Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon. Subsequent Johnny Cash cd and dvd releases are constantly in the ARIA charts. In the current ARIA Country Music chart for August 21, no less than seven releases on the Top 20 are by Johnny Cash.
Annual Tributes
The annual Johnny Cash Tributes are put together by Lori Lee Cash, organiser of The GreazeFest, who will also be guest DJ on the evening. “I’ve been a big Johnny Cash fan for over two decades now and it’s wonderful to see so many new fans being touched by his music. The tribute nights are both moving and exciting, where everyone can immerse themselves in the music from Man in Black.”
Special Guests
Gathering to pay tribute to the country music legend will be West Texas Crude, Corn Liquor and The Duke Wilde Band. DJ Lori Lee will be playing a choice selection Johnny Cash tunes all evening. Doors open at 8pm and cover charge is $12.
