Recession Reveals Who Your Real Friends Are:
(Friday, 15 May 2009) Written by Stacey Kumagai

Los Angeles, CA  When you-know-what hits the fan and you’ve come upon hard times like this economic recession, true friends are hard to come by.  But tough times also reveal who you can really count on.  Vocalist-Songwriter-Musician-Producer, Sonya Kahn has lived this scenario repeatedly during her life’s journey enough to pen the single FRIEND, about betrayal, losing a friendship and seeing a so-called friend’s true identity revealed.  FRIEND is the newest edgy soft-rock single from Kahn’s album, NEW BEGINNING.  The full production version which features Kahn’s vocal, piano and guitar talents has already received 137,000 plays on Myspace.com/SonyaKahn where she’s already received over 855,000 profile views.  Kahn is proud to announce a brand new unplugged acoustic version video on YouTube.com/SonyaKahn.  Kahn felt the piano-only video would convey something deeper, yet intimate with her Bach-inspired edge. And felt it would emotionally connect with people going through this for the first time since today’s economic situation makes friendship a life priority.  “The most important aspect of friendship that I think is missing today, especially with what is going on in the world and during these economic hardships is trust!  Knowing that you can trust and rely on you friends, gives you more strength and courage to go out there and take chances, take risks knowing that you have a shoulder to lean on,” Kahn explains. “There is definitely a parallel in what my song communicates to how the rest of the world operates – alliances with other nations, businesses and the ethics of people…. Ideally every kind of communication should be based on trust, respect and love, these are three extremely important elements to keep our relationships balanced,” she adds.

A classically trained concert pianist, Kahn not only sings, writes all her own material, plays guitar, arranges, produces, dances and costume designs. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in concert piano performing and musical theory and records on her own Indie label, Mozarta Muzik. One would think she doesn’t have time for friends.  But friendship is a necessary foundation for what keeps her balanced in her artistry.  “The bottom line is that we all need friends. Some have more friends, some have better quality friends but in the end it’s all about who you can trust and rely on…. I just hate to have my dog as the only option,” laughs Kahn.

Kahn additionally to her own friends has lots of online friends and created a group, Sonya Kahn’s Speak Out Symphony, http://groups.myspace.com/SKSOS, where she has posted a topic about friends, betrayal and friendship and has interaction with her friends about the subject. She finds she is not alone in what she feels and is promoting this song so that her friends don’t feel alone either.

“This happens with everybody. Nobody is perfect in this world and no matter how badly you were hurt or betrayed, I want listeners to not lose hope. There are many good people out there and sooner or later you will definitely find a new, true friendship,” states Kahn.

FRIEND is the newest recording and video since Kahn released SABRE DANCE on YouTube sixty days ago, which has received over 62,000 hits on YouTube.com/SonyaKahn.  She has three more videos soon-to-be-released featuring new singles off her album.
