| The Del Sonics, local super-duper instro-prog-surf-power-rock combo, have added a bunch more dates to their “World Domination Imminent Tour” – a “semi-residency” run of Sundays at The Music Kafe, West End Sunday 12 July The Music Kafe, Boundary Street, West End Sunday 23 August The Music Kafe, Boundary Street, West End Sunday 13 September The Music Kafe, Boundary Street, West End Sunday 18 October The Music Kafe, Boundary Street, West End Sunday 22 November The Music Kafe, Boundary Street, West End
How’s the tour been so far? “Sweeeeet” says drummer Krank Daddy. “Chicks, cars, booze, burgers and rock and roll!! – then I leave the house for the gig”. Chief guitar-slinger Twang is unusually energetic about the gigs. He usually prefers to keep his head down and churn out the notes via NASA-inspired foot pedals and whammy bar. “I’ve gigged on five continents” he blurts, “some of them on planet Earth, but we always get the best crowds in West End. They go nuts – they’re mad for the surf tunes”. The Dels have been putting the finishing touches to their (as yet unnamed) debut album due for release next month. Recent Del Sonics live performances suggest it should be a cracker – the tunes have been road tested and trimmed of every piece of fat – this three piece is a lean, mean rock and rolling machine. If you think instro-surf hasn’t progressed since The Shadows and the Ventures, then you should check out The Del Sonics, and drag yourself into the 21st century! Dates: see above
