OZMUSIC EVENTS PRESENTS: MASSIVE SOUNDS FESTIVAL
Jubilee Hotel, Fortitude Valley - June 28, 2008

Brisbane’s live music scene is set to come alive with the Massive Sounds Festival on June 28.

Ozmusic Events, co-owned by Shane Downey, Stuart Hainsworth and Rebecca McCall, are the organisers of the event, designed to advance local bands and national bands.

Shane Downey said since the demise of Livid Music Festival in 2003, Brisbane’s rock scene has been missing out.

“In recent years, Brisbane hasn’t had any really great festivals relative to the local scene,” Mr Downey said.

“Our dream, which is soon to become a reality, is to bring everything we love about music into the spotlight once again,” he said.

Mr Downey said the organisers wanted to create a festival to show the true colours of our brilliant local music scene here in Brisbane.

“We are showcasing a group of up and coming local acts, smack bang in between some of the best and hottest bands in the country – and also in the world.

“It’s going to be chock solid full of Brisbane and Australia’s best rock bands, as well as some of the country’s finest Hip Hop, Dub and Funk acts,” he said.

While most Brisbane venues only having a small audience capacity with limited sound projections to adhere to the needs of rock and alternative bands, Mr Downey said they looked no further than the Jubilee Hotel in Fortitude Valley.

Since changing management in December 2007, the Jubilee has made a variety of layout changes for bands and patrons alike, creating an increasing popularity and drawing larger crowds.

The Massive Sounds Festival venue has full capacity of 1,500 people, which the organisers are confidant will be met.

“Massive Sounds will definitely NOT be a dance music festival, fluoro colours will NOT be a theme for the day, but Rock n Roll will be!” Mr Downey said.

“Come and help us relive everything that has disappeared from our music festivals. Help us bring the passion back into rock and roll.”

The Festival line-up, across four stages, includes: Final Days of Autumn, Stone Parade, Diana Anaid, Dubdoubt, Repeat Offender, Tim Steward Band, Hip Pocket, The Lowdown, Dogpound (Two Resin Dogs), Chocolate Strings, New Manic Spree, Omni Anti, Abby Skye, Returns, The Score, River Stone Haze, Letter to Spain, 1989, The Transits, Fasttrak Euphoria, The Internalists, Dan Acfield Band (Dear April), Claire Whiting Band, Kent Street Band, Jungle Traffic, Shelby Lim, Saskia Blu, Patrick Tunney, Liam Bryant, Emma Carton, The Figures, Distant Truth, Kye Cole, Dank Morass DJ’s and more.
Massive Sounds Festival will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Jubilee Hotel, 470 St Paul’s Terrace, Fortitude Valley. Gates open 11am, with the Jubilee licensed until 3am.
