1. Repeat The Monster Monster Mash: For a team of people that live in Brisbane, it seems like Monster Zoku Onsomb! are forever hosting farewell parties … thank god they come back! This weekend’s gig at The Globe is going to be so much fun and will involve lasers, choreography and costumes to boot ... I can’t wait. The Globe, Jul 3 from 9pm. Tickets $12 at the door or $9 pre-sold from oztix.com.au

2. Karnival Of Souls: It was a big night last Thursday, with The Outpost and VS Gallery both opening shows full of pretty pictures. If you missed the latter, check it out: photographer Sean Young presents a collection of La Chappelle-esque portraits of Brisbane Circus and Cabaret personalities intended to ‘amuse the mind, excite the senses and confront polite sensibilites". Take your grandma. Karnivalesque @ VS Gallery, 57 Brunswick St until Jul 3.

3. I Want My ABC: Are you a big personality? Are you sick of not hosting a TV show? ABC is running a competition aimed at finding ‘diverse new talent’ to host programs on their upcoming children’s network, ABC 3. To apply, head to www.abc.net.au/tv/meon3. Applications close Jul 17.

4. The Alternative Cut: There are a few Artist-Run Initiatives out there that I didn’t even know about until this month, and they’re joining forces for two openings/events this weekend. Recession Art + Other Strategies and Fresher Cu_ts 2009 both open this Saturday Jul 4 at different venues in The Valley; check out www.inbetweenspaces.org for all the information.

5. … And More Online Art: Yet another online art space for emerging artists is coming to Brisbane/the web in July. It’s called VegaSpray and they’re aiming for a slick layout with clean online galleries and great networking potential. If you like the sound of it, check out vegasspray.com for a submission form. The site launches in July.
