1. Whole Lock Of Love: It’s too late to enter this year’s Leukaemia Foundation Shave For A Cure, but not too late to sponsor a participant. Can I suggest my friend Lucy Slater, who’s losing a mane of raspberry tresses for the cause? Head to www.worldsgreatestshave.com to sponsor an individual or team, or make a donation to the Foundation. The shave happens this week from Mar 11 – 13.
2. Take Me To The River: I love Flipbook Gallery! It’s small, comfortable, and hidden away. Their new group exhibition, New Works Of Erotica, opens this Friday night from 6 – 9pm. Get the idea at the Gallery website www.flipbookgallery.com. Flipbook is in West End at 8 Greet St, off Montague Rd. There’s a map on the website.
3. Homestyle: The guys who run Flipbook (or one of them at least) also run The Crosstown Eating house. The Crosstown is now my favourite place for high-falutin’ hangover food – nothing makes you feel better than a bloody mary and mashed potato. I can’t recommend it enough. www.thecrosstown.com.au.
4. Back To O’Bedlam: It’s a long way away, but the Bell Shakespeare’s King Lear returns to QPAC this May. You know the script is great, and John Bell is playing the part to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bell Shakespeare … this will be worth it. Head to the performing arts website for tickets. www.qpac.com.au.
5. Reclaim The Nightlife: No pithy title for this one – I’ve ripped it directly from the flyer for this weekend’s protest against shutting all licensed bars and venues at 2 or 3am. There’s a peaceful protest planned for Thursday Mar 11 at 4 – 6:30pm outside Parliament House. Head to www.queenslandlockedout.com for more information. Be first to comment on this article |
