The good, the bad and the Underoath.

With the audio CD quotient of this release recorded live at various locations across the United States, thus presumably being the best the band has to offer, and the accompanying DVD recorded live at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, Survive Kaleidoscope captures post-hardcore band Underoath at the height of their career. With a track-listing that encompasses the best tracks from the bands two previous releases – including In Regards to Myself, It’s a Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door, A Moment Suspended In Time and many more – the only gripe one could have is that the energy and passion inherent on the DVD section does not quite translate on the CD. From a visual standpoint, it is hard to fault the energetic and stimulating performance given by the band. Throwing limbs and hair around like there was no tomorrow amid a blistering light-show captured by sweeping cameras, it is easy to see why Underoath sell out shows across the world, and why this release would be an asset to any fan’s collection despite the lack of any special features.  However, as mentioned previously, the live-CD is somewhat of a letdown and lacks energy and crisp delivery, seeming somewhat flat and disjointed in comparison to the same tracks on the DVD and the band’s studio albums. Luckily, in the grand scheme of things, this release can be seen to be merely a precursor to the band’s next studio offering, which is only just around the corner.
