MAYA CAWTHORN passes notes to five-piece school-age indie poppers DANGER BUNNIES, who are set to launch their debut recording at Brisbane Powerhouse’s Powerkidz Rock Concert this weekend.
So, Danger Bunnies are made up of four girls in Year 7 and a boy in Year 5. How did you start playing together as a band?
The band started when the three original girls were in Year 5 in 2006 – Paris got a drum kit, Zoe started piano lessons and Indigo started jamming with her dad (a drummer) and uncle (a guitarist) and played at the Brisbane Central fete in 2006.
You performed at the Andy Warhol Silver Factory Summer Festival in Brisbane. What was that experience like?
It was great, we got to perform in all silver but the wigs were itchy! We also got to view the art and the silver balloon room as much as we wanted and we got paid for the gig which was amazing. We all got to keep some money and saved some for a recording.
Do you ever get nervous being up on stage in front of people and performing live music?
Some of us do and some don’t. Indigo Paris and Zoe are pretty much used to it – Indigo thrives on it in fact! Emily gets pretty nervous, but as the bass player she looks cool. Bunya boy bunny has only played one real gig with us so I’m sure he will get into it.
What was it like recording your first EP, Passing Notes? Was it stressful or exciting?
We recorded at Zero Interference with Bryce and he was very patient – which is good because we are not. We don’t have great attention spans so we recorded each song about three times and that was it. We were also really hungry.
What are you hoping will happen when Passing Notes comes out?
Not sure. We just love playing.
Would you recommend to other people your age that they should form a band and play music?
Yes, because it’s a good experience and it’s fun at the same time.
Out of any band or singer in the world, who would Danger Bunnies most like to play alongside?
GWEN STEFANI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DANGER BUNNIES launch their PASSING NOTES EP at the Powerkidz Rock Concert this Saturday July 12 at 3pm. The free concert takes place on the Turbine Platform at Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm, and will also feature Powerbandz and Angels Of Fire.
