A belated follow-up for this Copenhagen band aiming to crack the U.S.
When he’s not using the moniker Plastic Kid for his work making videos, illustrations, visual effects, animations, and so on, graphic artist Jakob Printzlau also fronts The Fashion, a Danish band that’s been around in one form or another since the mid-’90s, releasing their debut in 2003. This release has them only now getting to their second album. Though they call themselves a post-punk band with comparisons to The Beastie Boys and LCD Soundsystem, they’re actually well shy of that, even if their other references – to bands like The Rapture and The Bravery – are closer to the mark. Add some other influences (a touch of The Killers in Vampires With Gold Teeth and a dabbling in likable pop-reggae for Letters From The Ambulance), and it comes together as a tight blend of uptempo guitar pop styles with an emphasis on infectiousness. But, despite promising song titles like those and others like Solo Impala, Dead Boys and The Funeral Department, there’s not really much of a message here. Okay, English isn’t their first language so I’ll make allowances. So it’s their feel-good pop drive that gives them their impetus on this effort.
