Tell us about The All Star Flying Shoe Hit Parade…
... it’s a rollicking revue of alt-country, folk and acoustic pop music bringing together Kieran Waters, Sue Ray, Baron Field & The Horse You Rode In On for one night of toe-tappin’, thigh-slappin’ pork and beans. The show features a mix of world-class original compositions with a smattering of classics from the likes of Hank Williams, Dylan, The Band, The Stones and Fleetwood Mac.
You play the mandolin and the accordion as a part of Sue Ray’s band. What made you take up such instruments, and what others can you play?
Sue made me take them up because she needed someone to play them at her CD launch. I can pull a tune out of most things with strings or keys.
What was behind the idea to take it out of the pubs and clubs and put on a special show?
After years of playing in bars, yelling over the boozing and chit chat and cutting our sets short so the DJ could get a decent amount of game time, The Horse boys and I decided we wanted to put on an event where the songs were the focus. We’ll also be raising some money for the 2008 Variety Bash charity fundraiser for special needs kids.
If you became tone deaf and thus couldn’t work musically, what would you do instead?
I think I’d dedicate my life to managing records for the Government.
KIERAN WATERS and fellow artists SUE RAY, BARON FIELD and THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON will be performing as THE ALL STAR FLYING SHOE HIT PARADE at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday Aug 2. (www.myspace.com/allstarflyingshoes)
