The Arena - Sat Jul 26

With The Arena uncomfortably split into under-18 and over-18 floors tonight, viewing space is at a premium, and with my slight stature proving an immediate disadvantage my attempt to watch Sunshine Coast openers From The Hearts Of Heroes is mostly in vain. Luckily, they’ve employed top notch engineering from the get-go, a rare event for the openers who are normally plagued by flat, poorly mixed sound, and their super melodic screamo packs a significant punch.

From the doomy intro it’s immediately clear the few hundred stunned screamo fans on the under-18 only floor have no comprehension of the coolness they are witnessing in Gold Coast metalcore heavies A Secret Death. With the re-release of an extended version of their ’05 EP. Fear Is The Driving Force and a long-promised new album ready to go, we’re treated to a mix of both their melodic-metal oldies, and some deep and darker material. Impressed by their staggered timing and wild rhythms, it’s a pain I’m unable to access the merch desk to find out more.

Opening to the Team America theme song, I’m astounded by the deafening response Las Vegan five-piece Escape The Fate receive; the screaming crowd’s high-volume sing-alongs drown out the band from the first line. Reverse The Curse, from their 2006 album Dying Is Your Latest Fashion, receives another high-pitched response before broken-footed singer Ronnie Radke coaxes bassist Max Green to strip down, before Radke strips down himself and engages Green some homoerotic horse play. Getting loose on this, their final show in Australia, Radke climbs onto the lighting rig, via the speaker stack and swings into the crowd, plastered leg first. Predictably, someone in the audience complains and receives a microphone hit to the head for his troubles, with the calamity overshadowing the huge finishing track, Situations.

Radke isnt in the band anymore, Craig Mabbitt is their new singer.

Big mistake here. I read this in the magazine today and laughed at the lack of research James Stafford had done to create this article. Radke is actually spending the next five years in prison, thus, as Fred has stated, Craig Mabbitt (ex Blessthefall) is Escape The Fate's singer. Great show though.

This is very poorly researched.
