The Zoo - Sat Jul 26
The denim army is in full force tonight for an evening of classic rock & roll sounds. The crowd numbers are nothing to write home about, but the devoted few are already gulping their drinks in anticipation of a debaucherous night.
Mr Internationals are five kids from around Brisbane that have been knocking out punchy riff rock for the past three years, and this experience is evident as they blast through their impassioned set. Keno’s intense guitar solos are pulled off with precision and gusto, while the vocalist continually expresses his fondness for the cowbell.
Next up is another local act, with The Mercy Beat heading for a more punk rock approach to their set. Their friends in the audience carry the applause after most songs, but I doubt that many people are particularly disappointed by their performance.
Coming up from Melbourne for the weekend are headliners The Skybombers, playing choice tracks from their debut album Take Me To Town. Mining the same vein of rock as Jet – but with less of a tendency to force out a scream to replace melody – it’s the sound that used to dominate dive pubs before the one armed bandit became omnipresent.

Their sheer intensity combined with some very tech key and timing changes made for a most riveting set that demanded the tapping of at least one of the extremities of every soul in the place. It wont be long before you see 'The Mercy Beat' in big letters on top of the bill. Pretty sure I spotted a camera crew with them too, keeping eyes out for that. Mister International and the Skybombers were really good too, but my vivid memories were certainly of The Mercy Beat. |
4. Written by Rock Lives, on 08-08-2008 15:27 Holy crap who reviewed this night were you even there??? The Sky Bombers and Mr Internationals in one show you've got to be kidding ... The crowd was pumped the energy was huge and Mr Internationals were an absolute show stopper. To come out and play first like that was unreal. The Mercy Beat were good but didn't belong on the night shown by the amount of people that left when they started and the Sky Bombers what can I say... Excellent Night |
