Obviously Killadelphia 2 would have sounded too cheesy

Slightly dubious title aside, Walk With Me In Hell, Lamb of God’s second feature-length documentary, provides an interesting look at the band on the touring cycle that followed the massively popular 2006 Sacrament album. Helmed again by Doug Spangenberg, Walk With Me In Hell follows the format laid out in the band’s first feature length doco. Lamb Of God are hanging out on tour buses, which is interspersed with footage of the band on stage and one on one interviews. However, this time around we get a sense of Lamb Of God after they’ve been thrust into metal stardom (and perhaps even some degree of mainstream recognition). Whereas Killadelphia told the story of the band’s American and European tours, Walk With Me In Hell sees the band go around the world twice. The stories the band has to tell this time around are more interesting by merit of the fact they’re going to more interesting places. However, watching Walk With Me In Hell I couldn’t help but remember Killadelphia. In his first doco, director/camera man Doug Spangenberg guided the story with the escalating conflict between guitarist Mark Morton and vocalist Randy Blythe, while the Walk With Me In Hell narrative lacks dynamism and feels more like a simple re-telling of events. Also, watching the parts that showed the band in Australia greatly undermined the doco’s credibility, footage of the band’s signing at Skinny’s is shown as though it happened on the band’s maiden voyage to our country, when it occurred on their headlining tour… six months later. Where Killadelphia was a warts and all portrayal of the band and their travels, Walk With Me In Hell seems sterile. Especially due annoying sound effects that make the doco seem as credible as a funniest home video show.
