Bomba front man goes down a solo path and finds himself back in reggae town.
For anybody who is familiar with Nicky Bomba’s reggae/funk band Bomba, you will know what to expect from his first foray into solo work. Not that this is a bad thing: Nicky knows how to craft a cruisy tune. The title track of this five-song sneak peek into his forthcoming LP is a catchy little ditty that had me bopping my head with every beat. Kruptanite has an amazing drum solo (Nicky Bomba drummed for John Butler Trio on Sunrise Over Sea) that had my jaw slapping my thighs like a hillbilly. The only downside to this sampler is that it doesn’t smack enough of Australiana. Nicky Bomba has a knack for writing good, solid songs. However, here’s to hoping that his forthcoming album features more of a unique Aussie feel, because right now he just seems like just another amazing imitator within a sea of rasta hats and dreadlocks.
