BigPond Launches Mp3 Service… PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 19 August 2008

BigPond has become the first Australian online music store to download tracks in DRM-free MP3 format. It’s signed deals with all the four major labels as well as indies MGM, Inertia, Liberation, IODA, and AmpHead, and is talking to more local indies. It projects this will increase the amount of titles it has from 200,000 to 1 million by January. BigPond is clawing at Apple iTunes’ market lead in two ways. Its MP3 tracks are $1.69 each (less for its subscribers) and it has the bonus that MP3s are compatible with all standard music players including the iPod as well as Sony Walkman and a wide range of portable digital music players and home media centres.

Is good album artwork/packaging a factor in you deciding whether to buy a CD or just a download?
