ImageSkirts Like These

Local gal Kim Dawson has created a clever and innovative fashion debut collection entitled ‘Holly Hobbie reincarnates as a gypsy and marries a Ric Rac Tycoon’. Skirtslikethese are inspired by Kim’s fascination with ethnic dress and obsession with original fabrics and trims. Drawing inspiration from the Spanish Pollera found in Bolivia, to the North Vietnamese traditional folk dress, the pieces mix Kim’s love of costuming and all things Ric Rac with a modern design twist. Each skirt is custom made and original, with no two created the same. Skirtslikethese are one size fits all and adorned with gorgeous elaborate trims and not only can they be worn as skirts, the website also features a variety of ways to create an individual look. ImageThea & Sami

Thea Samios is just one of 12 finalists who have been selected to take part in debut, the emerging designer competition presented by Melbourne’s Fashion Exposed & preview festival. Thea studied textile design in Canada and returned home to Brisbane in 2006 and established her label Thea & Sami. Focusing on limited edition eco-fashion, designs hand printed on natural organic fabrics with non-toxic inks, the collection ECO Town & Country ties in fun ‘70s styling with a modern twist. Smart enough for work wear but casual and cute enough for a weekend away in the country! In 2007 Thea’s hand-printed ‘Brisbane Skirt’ won the Memento Of Brisbane Award at the Memento Awards for Australian-made tourist gifts. With his flagship store located in Fortitude Valley’s new fashion mecca, the TCB building, and his designs featuring in countless fashion festivals, Josh has been a busy boy! His latest range, ‘Romeo’s Closet’, is influenced by a modern take on the tale of Romeo and Juliet, with classic colours accentuated by hints of metallic and asymmetrical construction, textured fabrics and unconventional design lines.
