One of the Grandaddies of ska – Jamaica’s Ernest Ranglin – is headed to Australia for the Island Vibes Festival, happening on north Stradbroke Island Friday Oct 24, through Sunday Oct 26. Having worked as a session muso at Studio One and Island Records, Ranglin has gone onto further explore reggae’s links with African music, including recording in Senegal with Baaba Maal’s band, and Alextown, a jazzy collaboration with South African township musicians. Ranglin will play one sideshow in our region – the Great Northern Hotel on Friday Oct 24.
