The Troubadour - Wed Sep 17
Building on an already burgeoning profile as one of Australia’s brightest blues & roots prospects, Melbournian Jaimi ‘Jaim-eye’ Faulkner mans the merchandise table before and after his humble set, making him the ultimate ‘support’ artist. Impressing with his acoustic guitar skills from the get-go, Faulkner displays the talent recently recognised in Memphis with powerful tunes such as Back To You and Hold On Babe, which stands up well without Mia Dyson’s backing vocals.
Handling a false start with professional flair, Canadian rock superstar Jeff Martin emerges to introduce his new project The Armada with an intimate solo performance to a sold-out audience dominated by die-hard Tea Party fans. Opening on a 12-string with new song Boomerang, he retreats to Requiem (with interlude) before playing solo passages of Hallelujah and I Love You.
Although musically amazing, it is the between-song banter that makes the evening so special; he introduces Coming Home as a track usually voted down in the Tea Party democracy. Amongst a variety of Tea Party teasers, Martin introduces A Line In The Sand as a new tune for The Armada before welcoming Faulkner on stage with harmonica for Black Snake Blues, finishing with a Massive Attack-infused version of Sister Awake as an encore.
