- Multiple Q Song award-winner James Grehan launches his album Space Between The Silence on home turf this Thursday at The Basement in the Gold Coast Arts Centre. Tickets are $10 and doors are at 7pm. Grehan will be supported by Triple J Unearthed winner Abbie Cardwell and local songstress Jac Stone.
- Talented locals Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies play The Globe this Thursday, showcasing songs from sterling new album The Way Out. Juddah and The Ladykillers support, and it’s $10 entry with free CD on presentation of a show flyer (included in this issue of Rave).
- Alt-club event Stolen steps up for Round 2 on Saturday upstairs at the Step Inn, promising gift bags for those attending promptly at 10pm, tag team party DJs and ‘tonnes of smiles’.
- ‘Sludgy doom rock’ two-piece No Anchor are about take off to Melbourne for some shows, but before leaving they’re playing Ric’s on Saturday with Spartak from Canberra. The band’s Fire Flood & Acid Mud album is available now. www.myspace.com/noanchorband
- The very first Resistance Isn’t Futile punk/ska/’80s club night kicks off at The Jubilee this Saturday, with funds going to Free Tibet, Strummerville and 4ZzZ. Live bands include The Black Market, The Pretty Boys, Bad Moon Company, Sponge Dregz, Hatefuck and The Flanfipannis. Doors at 7pm, $10/$7 zed subs.
- City indie night Common People goes live again this Saturday from 9pm, with electro-rock party kids Re:Enactment joining indie types Table & Chair upstairs at Thriller (Rosie’s), before guest DJs take over for post-Parklife action.
- Brisbane’s longest running poetry event – Speedpoets – returns to its underground home in New Farm’s Alibi Room this Sunday. Hosted by Reverend Hellfire, with music from ‘wurlitzer wonderkid’ Scott Spark, it starts at 2pm and will feature open mic poetry, free zines and giveaways. Check www.speedpoets.org for more info.
