- Marisa Allen, aka Bremen Town Musician, is launching her second album of experimental blues – No One Is Holding A Gun To Your Head (Songs To Run To) – at the Troubadour on Wednesday Oct 15, supported by Anonymeye and The William Moon Book Society. A published poet and regular performer at avant-poetry event Outsiders, Allen also has shows at the UQ Red Room (Oct 19) and Brisbane Square Library (Oct 26) on the horizon.
- Don’t miss the ultimate pyjama party at the Globe Theatre on Friday Oct 17! Pyjamas & Pumps is a National Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser featuring Daisy May, Sabrina Lawrie (Little Vegas & The Fuzz Parade), Hannah Jane Griffiths (Golden Virtues), Amy Cushway, Megan McQuade and Jody Haines as well as raffles and giveaways. Tickets $20 on the door.
- 4ZzZ’s Youth Show is hosting a Lil’ Day In – a free all ages, drug and alcohol-free event – at Valley Studios on October 19 from 2 to 6pm featuring local young artists including Brad McCaw, Comic Sans, Map Firmosa, Wearing Rosco and the winner of the 4ZzZ Youth Show’s band competition. There will also be activities from lino printing to drumming workshops and an array of prizes and stalls.
- Industrial rock five-piece Devilution release their debut album, Welcome, with an official launch at Inferno on Wednesday Oct 29 at the Step Inn. The band head off on their first Sydney tour straight after.
- Flying the flag for Brisbane’s new generation of rock & roll kids, Black Mustang are set to launch their debut LP Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea on Saturday Nov 1 at the Zoo with Little Vegas, The Fuzz Parade, New Jack Rubys and Stratton.
- Oblique local singer-songwriter Edward Guglielmino is also gearing up to launch his new album Late At Night on Nov 1 at Lofly Hangar in Red Hill. You can now visit his new official website, www.edg.ug, hosted in Uganda!
- Get in just before Halloween to check out some raunchy bitches on fire at Ric’s Witches and Bitches on Saturday Oct 25 from 3pm. There ain’t no warty noses here! Hot rockers Des De Mona hook up with the gravelly blues sounds of The Paperbacks to play a show that should blow your hats off. Des De Mona also play the Clarence Corner Hotel on Friday Oct 18.
- Boys & ghouls! It’s going to be a truly Hardcore Halloween at The Step Inn on Friday Oct 31 with Hollow, The Quickening, Mouthguard, Spitfireliar, Team Dickhead, Spank Sinatra and Perhaps Maybe. 7pm, tickets $15 on the door.
- After achieving near legendary status on numerous consecutive Sunday nights at the Story Bridge Bomb Shelter, Brisbane blues act The Hipshooters are returning for a special one-off gig at the Step Inn on Saturday Nov 8.
