(Rice Is Nice/Shock)
Second album from silly-fun console rocker
Following on from Spod’s 2003 debut album, the greasily exuberant Taste The Radness, Superfrenz has been a little bit delayed. After losing both his hard drives while putting the finishing touches on the album, Spod had to start over essentially from scratch. It turns out that Superfrenz is entirely worth the wait. This collection of constantly changing and evolving electropunk anthems makes for catchy smile-time all round. His lyrics are awesome nonsense about partying, dancing and boobs, while the music is filled with magnificently cheesy ‘80s synth, fat beats, dialling modems and ringing phones. Time Maggots Eating The Flesh Of Destiny sounds like the soundtrack to a low-budget BBC sci-fi show before he starts rapping about parties, Norx is a rocking ode to tits that namechecks the girls from Charmed, So Exciting declares that “If you don’t like to be rocked you can suck on all my balls / and my penis too” and Nitefallz is the sound of someone having so much fun the entire world spontaneously explodes. Dead, which is about being dead, surprises with a beautiful moment full of wailing keys, rolling thunder and strumming guitar, but mostly Superfrenz is the sound of a party in your ears to which your hips are invited also.
