A grower
We Grow Up are a five-piece out of Adelaide who write pristine pop music with some folk ornamentation for kicks. These guys have a thing for clever melodies, story-telling and textured percussion, and from such curious predilections has erupted this jubilant and infectious long player. It is clear that somewhere between Crowded House and The Beatles there is an altar at which these guys knelt down and said their prayers. Only the Gods Of Eargasm can know exactly what they asked for, but I can tell you some of what We Grow Up were granted: deluxe multi-layered arrangements with everything from Baroque keyboards to Beach Boys break downs. The songsmithing on this record seems to me like a divine promise ... Sure, Night Kitchen is great – but such a shit hot debut has to beg the question: What’s next? Here’s hoping it’s a long life together.
