(Studio Pierrot/Madman)
Previously unreleased Naruto goodness.
The two episodes contained here were originally produced exclusively for the Shonen Jump Festival. The first, Find The Crimson Four-Leaf Clover, sees Naruto and his colleagues fighting their way through an elite ninja training compound in search of a fabled flower – and all in the name of love! The second episode, Protect The Hidden Waterfall Village, finds the stupidly courageous Naruto fighting a band of rogue ninja alongside the Hidden Waterfall Village’s cowardly young leader.
Both stories are fairly brief at around 30 minutes each, though feel considerably longer than a regular episode due to being self-contained – and lacking the obligatory five-minute summary of the story so far. Unfortunately, it’s still only 60 minutes of content, and for the same price you can get five episodes from the series, for a total run-time of 100 minutes (or the new uncut collections, which are a little bit more expensive but go for five hours). Pricing is my main complaint, for while these episodes are great examples of Naruto, there is little incentive to purchase them over the plethora of releases already available. That’s a shame, because in my opinion they’re better.
