- ‘Post-pop schoolboys’ Friends Of Hers and songstress Claire Whiting are holding a dual EP launch at the Troubadour on Wednesday Jan 28, supported by quirky local Kathryn McCello. Definitely a good chance to catch some new talent on a school night.
- Champion Youth Logan are presenting a talent quest that’s open to singers, MCs and musicians of all ages at the Logan PCYC on Saturday Jan 31. First prize in the World Connection Talent Quest is an artist development package that includes the chance to record a track at Dubwise Production Studios. - Newcity Entertainment and Sounds of Spring are teaming up to present Soundwise – a series of monthly all ages shows – beginning with Hey:Carlisle, Ruby Tigers, Cardboard Castle and Valkere on Sunday Jan 31 at The Valley Studios. Tickets will be $10 with doors at 4pm.
- If you’re familiar with classics like The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Only Heaven Can Wait and Killing Me Softly With His Song (no, not the Fugees’ version) then you know who Roberta Flack is. The acclaimed soul singer will be playing the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday Feb 4.
- Coochie Coup Productions are proud to present performances of The Vagina Monologues at The Globe Theatre on Thursday Feb 5 and Friday Feb 6. Tickets are $25 and the Friday night show will be followed by an after-party involving Blue Trial Records and Tim Loydell And The Deckchairs.
- Saturday Feb 7 sees indie club night Common People separate from the Thriller banner at Rosie’s and return to its old $6 door price. The re-launch night will feature a live performance from Sydney post-grungers Circle Pit (featuring members of Kiosk), and the usual mix indie, trash and electro-pop tunes.
- Melbourne swamp-country-rockers Silver City Highway are visiting Brisbane for the first time next month, playing the Troubadour on Sunday Feb 8 and supported by Texas Tea.
- Queensland singer-songwriters Emma Dean and Jacob Diefenbach will be joined by Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre in the staging of a new production called Downside Up, set to debut Friday Feb 20 at the Judith Wright Centre. The narrative/musical tells the intriguing tale of a boy born with an upside down face, and features both original and existing compositions from Dean and Diefenbach in its score. - Local folkal indiekieds Little Scout aren’t wasting any time. They released their debut EP last year and they’ll be embarking on their very first national tour soon. They’ll be playing Byron Bay’s Great Northern on Thursday Mar 5, Bon Amici on Friday Mar 6 and The Troubadour on Saturday Mar 7 with support from Belles Will Ring and Philadelphia Grand Jury. Sometime this year, another Little Scout EP will follow.
- Beginning April 8 and set in the serene sub-tropical surroundings of Central Queensland, the Coconet Classic is a unique five day festival combining Australia’s National Kiteboarding Championships, BMX, scooter and skateboarding competitions, beach games, and for the first time, a major music festival. On Sunday April 12 you can catch The Living End, Spiderbait, The Butterfly Effect, The Herd, Dukes of Windsor, Butterfingers, Dead Letter Circus, Mammal, Diana Anaid, DJ Jimmy Z, Melodyssey, Ellington, and many more.
