- The Arctic Monkeys plan to have their new album ready for release by the middle of the year. They’ve been working with Josh Homme on some songs at the Rancho De La Luna where he records his Desert Sessions albums.
- The Prodigy’s new album, Invaders Must Die, features guest drumming on a track by Dave Grohl. He’s been friends with them ever since Foo Fighters supported them back in the day and decided to send along a few drum tracks he’d been working on just in case they were interested.
- The War Child charity are putting together a fundraiser CD for release in February, featuring cover songs such as TV On The Radio doing David Bowie’s Heroes, Hot Chip doing Joy Division’s Transmission, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs doing The Ramones’ Sheena Is A Punk Rocker and Franz Ferdinand doing Blondie’s Call Me.
- Joaquin Phoenix has retired from acting and embarked on a musical career. The Walk The Line star’s attempt to make it – as a rapper, no less – will be captured in a documentary being filmed by Casey Affleck.
- Melbourne rockers The Temper Trap have landed themselves an overseas deal with Infectious Records – the home of the likes of Muse, Ash, Garbage and Paul Oakenfold – that will see their album released Europe and Japan in June. They’ll also be heading to the USA soon to play the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
- Delta Goodrem will feature in the video for Simple Plan’s song Save You. The Canadian pop-punkers reportedly wanted to make an inspirational clip featuring cancer survivors, so Goodrem, along with Sharon Osbourne and others, were invited to appear.
- Amy Winehouse is planning to start her own record label called Lioness. The first signing will be her own goddaughter, 13-year-old Dionne Broomfield.
