You could imagine alien Smurfs weeping openly at the Oscars as James Cameron’s Avatar (pictured) lost out to his ex-partner’s The Hurt Locker. The 2010 Academy Awards saw fit to award The Hurt Locker both Best Picture and Best Director (Kathryn Bigelow), whereas Cameron’s sci-fi mega-blockbuster had to make do with arts awards like Cinematography, Art Direction and Visual Effects. Jeff Bridges scored a deserving Best Actor win for Crazy Heart, while Sandra Bullock nabbed Best Actress for The Blind Side (making a matching pair with her Razzies’ Worst Actress Award for All About Steve.) Christoph Waltz’s Best Supporting Actor win for his turn in Inglorious Basterds was the most predictable of the night, with Mo’Nique winning the corresponding award for Precious. Best Animated Feature was, of course, Pixar’s UP, which also garnered Best Score. You can see the full list of winners at www.oscar.go.com.
