Bushfire Relief PDF Print E-mail

  • The Fisherman’s Wharf Tavern are putting on a benefit show on Wednesday Feb 18 to raise funds for the Salvation Army Bushfire Relief Appeal. Taj And The Soul Men, fronted by Taj McCaskill, will be performing on the night as part of a line-up of local sporting and media personalities. A $100 donation will get you both a night of live entertainment, food, beer and wine and a warm inner glow from karma well-earned.
  • Gold Coast venue The Loft is also holding a relief fundraiser, with Chris Stewart, David Aurora (with special guests David Freeman and Daniel Aurora) and Jackson Dunn performing on Friday Feb 20. All money raised goes to the Red Cross.
  • Another way you can help is to buy a ticket from the Dendy on Sunday Feb 22, when $2 from each ticket sold will be donated to the Red Cross Bushfire & Flood Appeal.
  • Leonard Cohen, currently on tour in Australia, has donated $200,000 to help those affected by the fires; Pink, set to play a gazillion shows across May, June and July, is donating $250,000; Triple M listeners have donated $2 million to the Red Cross; Jimmy Barnes is forwarding all proceeds from his iTunes-exclusive album Live At The Enmore; Kylie Minogue, Danii Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia and author Kathy Lette are organising a UK benefit to raise funds, and Sony Music have rush-released a Bushfire Aid compilation, with 35 Aussie and international artists clearing all royalties and proceeds to be donated to the Salvation Army.
  • Also, while we’re seeing the tragic repercussions on the people of the fire-affected areas, spare a thought for our furry friends who were not so lucky. It costs $50 each day to treat a fire-burned Koala – and that’s just the dressings. To help out our native wildlife, and displaced domestic pets you can donate to Wildlife Victoria (www.wildlifevictoria.org.au), RSPCA (www.rspcavic.org), Animal Aid (www.animalaid.com.au) or Wildlife Rescue & Protection Inc. (www.wrap.org.au). All donations are co-ordinated through Westpac, and are tax deductible. Take a look at www.ourcommunity.com.au/bushfire for a full list.
  • St Vincent de Paul will also be trucking down supplies and assistance. If you have usable items, and wish to donate them, simply drop them off at your closest Vinnies and they’ll be distributed as part of Bushfire relief, or to relieve the floods of North Queensland. Donations can be made through www.vinnies.org.au also.
