(Rosetin)

Death ‘n’ roll ain’t noise pollution

The primary strength of the debut full length offering from Melbourne’s Attack is its refreshing total lack of pretentiousness. This is an album that has pouty cock rock guitar riffs (Blowfly Women), 90s metal rhythms (Cycle of Failure, Long Way Down) and enough punk drumming to have even the most hardened scenester tapping their toes – because let’s face it, punk drummers set the standard and we all love them for doing so. When so many bands are totally enveloped by their micro-niche styles with the single-minded perspective that to stray would be too ‘sell out’, Attack have released an album that forsakes scene points for a sense of rollicking enjoyment in heaviness. The downside of this refreshing genre hopping is that Death Engine lacks some of the depth of a more stylistically focussed album. But that shouldn’t be a concern, because the band’s ten primo party tunes are sure to appease all at inter-scene shindigs.
