- Humpday recommendations: why not head along to see indie-folkies Mr Rascal and Mt Augustus at Ric’s? It’s free, and they’re promising a rollercoaster of woe-filled ditties and ‘bouncy pop’ from 9pm. Beats a night watching commercial television.
- The Garage2V state finalists for Queensland have been announced, with Villains Of Wilhelm, Drawn From Bees, The Gallant and PJ Reh battling it out at The Step Inn on Thursday for the chance to play both V Fest Gold Coast and the national festivals. That’s a tough competition right there. Best of luck to all the contenders!
- Fire And Flood, the benefit show this Friday at The Tivoli, sold out within minutes. It features Powderfinger, The Grates, Robert Forster, The John Steel Singers, The Boat People and Dan Parsons. Whispers suggest a possible Forster/Steel collaboration, but we wouldn’t want to fuel rumours….
- Despite Liquor Licensing and Fire Dept. visits to Rosie’s last Saturday night, alt-club Thriller and indie night Common People will be operating as normal at the venue this weekend.
- Mackay heavy rockers My Dying Days are trekking down the coast this week to play a couple of shows in the South East. Catch them on Friday at the Miami Shark Bar (with La Belle, 1989, and The Sea Shall Not Have Them) and Saturday at the QUT Guild Bar (with Split System, 1989, The Disconnection and Cure To Burn)
- Americans Mickey Avalon and Cobrasnake will be fronting up to a K-Club & Fans-presented post-party at Alhambra Lounge after their Tivoli show on Saturday night. Expect DJ sets from both and Action DJs besides.
- Local indie-rock fun types The Gonzo Show are heading south of the river to play some songs from their soon-to-be-released All In Good Time EP at the Clarence Corner Hotel in Woolloongabba this Saturday, supported by Swaying Buildings and Soundcasters. It’s a safe bet that with the Hi-Fi Bar opening at West End soon, get ready to see more people becoming accustomed to attending live music shows occurring outside the Valley…
