The Hi-Fi Group, which has run The Hi-Fi in Melbourne for 11 years, is opening a Brisbane chapter on Wednesday April 29 in West End. The Boundary St-situated Hi-Fi is being purpose-built in the shell of the Pavilion Hotel with a multi-million dollar renovation. It will include a main room on ground level and a mezzanine section with a vantage point for every person in the room. Hi-Fi spokesman Anthony Osborne says the club’s technology will be unparalleled in Queensland, with a leading edge Digidesign FOH console and state-of-the-art speaker technology. The April 29 opening will be free for those entering a competition, and is to be headlined by The Drones (pictured). Gareth Liddiard’s merry crew will also choose Brisbane support acts for the night from bands submitting via www.thehifi.com.au. Upcoming acts include Kate Miller-Heidke, RATATAT (USA), Little Birdy, Jeff Martin & The Armada (CAN), Paul Dianno (UK), COG and Salmonella Dub (NZ).
