- Wolfmother II are in a studio in Byron Bay working with Brit producer Alan Moulder (Arctic Monkeys, Nine Inch Nails, My Bloody Valentine). Andrew Stockdale says he has 17 new songs — some of which he had already written before the old line-up fell apart.
- Comments by White Lies’ singer Harry McVeigh that they’ll be playing here in July has led to speculation the band will play Splendour In The Grass in Byron Bay, as will Friendly Fires.
- Fatboy Slim, AKA Norman Cook, just here for Good Vibrations, has checked himself into rehab for alcohol addiction.
- After a five-year break, Phil & Paul Hartnoll, aka ‘90s techno legends Orbital, are reuniting for the European festival season. New Orbital recordings may also be in the works. Their last original full-length was 2004’s Blue Album.
- Internet-hating funk midget Prince will release a triple album pack on Mar 29 exclusively through retail chain Target in the US. The new studio albums LOtUSFLOW3R and MPLSoUND will be accompanied by Elixer, an album by Prince protégé Bria.
- A biopic is to made about ‘70s all-girl group The Runaways. Scripted and directed by video clip luminary Floria Sigismondi (Marilyn Manson clips and many others), it’s set to star Dakota Fanning as 15 year-old lead singer Cheri Currie and Twilight’s Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett. Look for it next year.
