- Sydney hip hoppers Astronomy Class (featuring Ozi Batla, Sir Robbo and Chasm) are set to launch their new album Pursuit Of Happiness on May 2. First single Where You At? (featuring Vida-Sunshyne and Kween G) is out now – check out the clip at www.elefanttraks.blogspot.com
- Canadian indie collective and all-round creative types Broken Social Scene will be joining Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, the Emily Haines-fronted Metric and Sloan (‘the Canadian Powderfinger’) to produce music for Edgar ‘Hot Fuzz’ Wright’s film adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s indie-rock-fantasy-romance graphic novel Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Whew. That’s a mouthful right there.
- Bob Dylan’s new album Together Through Life will be releases Apr 24 – it’s the living legend’s first new recording since 2006.
- Drummer Jimmy Chamberlain has left Smashing Pumpkins once again, although that won’t stop Billy Corgan from recording another album under the Pumpkins name later this year (alas).
- Literate UK indie rockers Maximo Park are set to release their third album, Quicken The Heart, on May 16. Recorded and produced in LA by Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave, Talking Heads), you can check out the first single, Wraithlike, now at www.maximopark.com. Advance word has it that following single The Kids Are Sick Again will rock your socks off.
- UK music website GigWise.com has awarded Howling Bells’ Juanita Stein the somewhat dubious lads mag-style title of Sexiest Woman In Rock. She beat Cat Power at #2, new Smashing Pumpkins bassist Ginger Reyes (who?) at #3, Norwegian singer and Röyksopp collaborator Annie at #4, and indie songstress Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) at #5. The field also included PJ Harvey, Jenny Lewis, The Raveonettes’ Sharin Foo and Ladyhawke, amongst others.
