- Intriguing French folk-rockers SvenSson – described as a mix of Serge Gainsbourg, The Cure and Nick Cave – will perform at The Step Inn on Thursday Apr 2, supported by Brisbane slowcore-popsters Mt Augustus.
- Tim Steward’s new outfit We All Want To are almost finished their first EP – you can catch them previewing some tracks when they support Halfway at The Troubadour on Friday Apr 3.
- Don’t forget the opening night fundraiser for new Brisbane arts hub The Fort (Bell Bros building, Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley) on Friday Apr 3. Entry is $15/$10 and the night will feature Rainman, Mr Laneous & The Family Yah, Grass Roots Street Orchestra, The Kelly Gang, Samedi Sound System, Yuin Huzami, breakdancing and multimedia displays, an organic BBQ, giveaways and more.
- Steve Kotey, collaborator and semi-official third member of UK leftfield house outfit Chicken Lips, will be playing an exclusive set at the Gold Coast’s Elsewhere club on Friday Apr 3.
- Aging skate-punks take note, Kris Roe of The Ataris visits The Globe on Saturday Apr 4 as part of his Blue Skies & Broken Hearts acoustic tour. The Paper & The Plane and The Gifthorse join Roe as he plays all the old hits from his Ataris career.
- Seriously noisy Sydney post-fuzz-rock five-piece Ghosts Of Television will be plying their special brand of post-millennial tension at Ric’s on Saturday Apr 4 alongside psych outfit Idle Cranes. They’ll also be appearing at Common People (Rosie’s) after the show for some eclectic DJ action.
- The Valley Transmission is amping up again for 2009, with the Valley Mall-situated live music event hosting Fushia, The Transmitters, Ellington and Re:Enactment on Saturday Apr 18. Bands kick off at 7.30pm, and it’s free and all-ages of course.
- Local four-piece The Quickening are sharpening up their metal-punk-rock riffs to launch new album White Blossoms on Saturday May 16 at The Step Inn, supported by Dick Nasty, No Anchor and more. New tune Of Books And Bells is up on their MySpace now (www.myspace.com/thequickeningonline)
