There are two types of music – there’s country and there’s western.
Felicity Urquhart has been a darling in the country music scene for a few years now and this album looks set to increase her standing as a powerful singer/songwriter. Country is never without its hard luck stories and this album is full of them. There is a ‘poor me’ twang to I Fall and Ernie’s Daughter, but hey, that’s what most people listen to country for. Her playing is adept without being overwhelmingly good and melodic lines and solos are few and far between – Felicity is strictly a chords lady. However, it is the soulful quality of her voice that will ultimately win listeners over. Two Wheels growls with delta spunk and is without a doubt the stand out track. The guest artists come thick and fast with Mark Seymour, Mike Thomas and country star Randy Scruggs all appearing and providing a textural depth that may result in folk and Americana fans crossing over and enjoying this release. Although it won’t be a permanent fixture in my CD player, Kasey Chambers fans will come running for it.
