PRESS RELEASE
“Discotouch album in the works!”
A dance album with a difference. Tasmanian born and bred DJ, producer and musician Discotouch (aka George Begbie) will be unleashing his debut album, Pet Radio in the second half of 2009.
Discotouch has been at the forefront of the Hobart dance music scene – holding a residency at Syrup Nightclub as well as making regular appearances at other venues around the city, and performing as part of the Ten Days on the Island Festival in 2007. He has become known for his memorable and dynamic sets, seamlessly blending together disco, funky, vocal, Latin and tripped up, jackin’ house into a delicious soup of house music love. And all of this while wearing a smart suit and tie. Who said dance music couldn’t be sophisticated?
His musical influences are far-reaching, and not just limited to the realm of dance. While the Freemasons, TV Rock, Joey Negro and Miguel Migs have all had a lasting effect on his style, he also draws influences from nu disco, fuzz bass of 90’s piano rock and some tasty morsels of trance.
Pet Radio is a type of concept album – to show his love for all things musical, combing both house and electronica styles. He’s busy creating new sounds such as his style of electric house, but maintaining an air of familiarity, and the occasional nod to classic house music motifs.
There’s 80’s and 90’s influenced house, the unforgettable 70’s groove, thoomping houseparty sneaky tech and the next-morning chill session. A journey through one end of the club to the other, ending up in a café three days later, a little dazed but somewhat enlightened.
Expect to see the album appearing in the second half of 2009, with a number of EPs and videos to be released before and after the album’s debut.
