Joshua Levi Galleries - Sat May 2

So this is UnderExposed 2009’s last blast – and the music photography exhibition is bowing out in style. Caught up in the thought about how incongruous the Woolloongabba gallery’s white walls are going to look sans endless photos, I’m too late to witness ‘60s enthusiasts Blame Ringo ply their craft (sorry guys!), but head to the carpark and join the beer, hotdog and music party nonetheless.

Buoyed by their forthcoming collaboration with the Cold War Kids producer and with new bassist Greg Chiapello in the ranks, the LA-bound Quills clearly aim Skyward as they treat the crowd to their sharp pop-rock repertoire. Live staple Foresight has frontman Dave Butler and keysmith Andrew Stone rocking out with double energy before bringing the set to a shimmering close.

Next on, The Travelling So & So’s further crank up the celebratory vibe, singer Kelly Jade inciting a ritual chant on Song For Silas. I, however, manage to miss the majority of it due to watching young songstress Bernie Carson in the gallery’s far room, but soon head back to the carpark where Mr Laneous & The Family Yah keep everyone dancing with their mix of funk and hip hop. Too tired to stay for Dan & Dilmah’s acoustic charms, I leave slightly saddened that the party’s over – for now. Goodbye UnderExposed, see you next year.
