GEARED isn’t mentioning the war, but after some serious play-testing, we suspect these German made SCHERTLER amplifiers might be worth fighting for.
SCHERTLER UNICO 185W
3-Channel Acoustic Guitar Amplifier
After two years spent monitoring the market, Schertler decided to make further improvements to an already successful product like Unico to meet our users’ needs even more effectively. Unico has made its success through its versatility and matchless natural sound. Now, they have further increased its flexibility, adding some important functions. By changing the size and shape of the amplifier, they have achieved softer bass. They’ve also introduced a gain control function across all three channels for improved input level control, which is vital for a clean signal. Mid control has been added to the DYN and STAT channels and a four-band equaliser is now available in the MIC channel to suit the needs of professional musicians. More compact and lighter (14.5kg), now Unico is even easier to carry! 150W + 35W RMS, in combination with a biamplified system, guarantee total transparency, harmonically rich sound and full low frequency control (up to 40Hz). There’s three adjustable inputs, three different outputs and one insert on the master channel. Finally, the spring reverb is strong and gorgeous. Schertler haven’t skimped on quality.
RRP $2,295
SCHERTLER DAVID 80W
2-Channel Acoustic Guitar Amplifier
David is a compact acoustic instrument combo amplifier, which features the same high attention to quality and sound as the Unico. It’s perfect for an artist who requires only two input channels. From preamplifiers to loudspeakers, all components were selected for their natural and accurate response. Two power amps with an active crossover supply 50W to the 6" woofer and 35W to the 1" dome tweeter. The result is velvety, clear harmonics with a controlled, strong low end (down to 50Hz). The biamplification produces a very transparent sound as well a providing maximum efficiency by properly matching amplifiers to loudspeakers. In addition, each power amplifier features limiter circuitry to deliver secure speaker protection. Amplifiers are built with bipolar transistors (no MOSFET) and are powered by a robust, traditional power supply (toroidal transformer). As with the Unico, David’s innovative Class-A circuitry and built-in analogue spring reverberation deliver the warm, smooth and musical sound that acoustic musicians covet. There are three outputs, and an insert on the master channel. The unit weighs 9kg.
RRP $1,795
SCHERTLER SIDE 180W
Active Loudspeaker System
Side was conceived and developed as an extension for the Schertler Unico or as a stand-alone active loudspeaker system, using the same high-quality components and circuitry. Again, as with the Unico, two power amps with an active crossover supply 150W to the 8" woofer and 35W to the 1" dome tweeter. The result – again – is velvety, clear harmonics with a controlled, strong low end (this time down to 40Hz). There’s an XLR/jack combo input, and an XLR output. Controls are limited to a ground lift switch and Volume. The unit weighs 13kg.
RRP $1,695
SCHERTLER BASS 200W
10" Subwoofer
The BASS subwoofer is the perfect complement to Unico or David for enhancing the performance of acoustic instruments producing strong bass frequencies such as double bass, acoustic bass guitar, cello, etc. This application activates the low cut feature on the Unico or David so as to have Bass fully reproduce … well, bass. Combined with two Side or PUB 280 units and thanks to its active stereophonic separation, it provides the proper foundation for your PA system. The bipolar 200W RMS and the traditional power supply featuring a toroidal transformer ensure a controlled and extremely accurate and powerful bass reproduction. Thanks to its compact design and efficient circuitry, Bass delivers incredible low end in a very portable 15.5kg package.
RRP $1,895
SCHERTLER PUB-280
Active Loudspeaker System
The PUB-280 is an active, biamplified system designed to deliver the mid and high ranges of a PA or monitor system, or act as a full-range instrument amplifier for most acoustic instruments. With 200W RMS to the 8" woofer and 80W RMS to the 1" compression tweeter, PUB-280 packs a lethal punch in a small package. The unit is high-powered and designed to provide undistorted music reproduction at high levels. Versatile and compact, PUB may be used as a PA system for small clubs, a monitor system for medium-sized stages, or as an individual acoustic instrument amplifier. Connections are an XLR/jack combo input, and an XLR output. It weighs 19.6kg.
