ImageIt’s Infusion’s first Australian tour in four years, which makes it quite a big deal tour-wise. How did the support slot for Dirty Secrets get hooked up?

Actually I will be really honest and say that it was thanks to a friend’s suggestion to the Infusion camp, and it turned out that they liked us, which thus got us on board for the tour.

You first started to get internationally recognised after showcasing at the prestigious CMJ New York and In The City Manchester. Is there any advice you have for up-and-coming bands on going global?

Just to be open and enjoy it and talk to everyone, the sound guy, the door person, the other bands, their managers, their manager’s managers and every person that will listen to you! Get out and connect with the city that you’re in, and learn what you can while you can because you may not get another chance.

What preparations do you personally make to go on a major tour like this one?

Make sure nobody is sick before you leave because as soon as you hit the road everyone will be sick within two days. And rehearse, rehearse and rehearse, so we can give the audience our best every night. Oh and push-ups, lots of push-ups.

Is there anything The Dirty Secrets can’t live without on the road?

I personally can’t live without my books and my iPod. When you’re around the same people all the time, you need your own alternate reality to escape into every now and then. Music – lots of different music to crank in the car when we get sick of talking to each other – and earplugs. Lots of those.

What do you guys have coming up after the tour?

A heap more writing to do! We have to finish our EP, which is due out in a few months, so some recording to do as well. Plus push-ups. It takes time to perfect the correct push-up technique; I think we are almost there.

THE DIRTY SECRETS support Infusion at Family on Thursday Jul 2 and the Great Northern on Friday Jul 3. www.myspace.com/thedirtysecrets
