First up, why the name City To Shoreline?
Our Singer Dane lives in Brisbane and the other members Jake, Chaz and Pauly live on the Sunshine Coast. So we put two and two together and came up with City to Shoreline.
That makes sense. To give people an idea of what CTS are about, where do some of the band’s major influences lie?
We like bands such as Alexisonfire, Underoath and The Amity Affliction, but also like songs that have catchy vocal melodies like Nirvana and Pete Murray. We try to create a heavy sound, but with a melody that will stay stuck in the listener’s head.
How difficult is it to be recognised, or standout from dozens of other bands within the same genre?
Well, most bands are trying to copy the same sound of other bands. Whereas we just try to push the limits of the genre and try to create and experiment with our music. But with the amount of similar bands it is hard to be recognized. So we just try our best to create something fresh and different.
Tell us a bit about the Bands For Benefit show you’re taking part in?
Bands For Benefits is a show that is promoting awareness and funds for leukaemia Research. It’s at the Sands Tavern in Maroochydore, which is a great venue and all ticket sales go straight to leukaemia research. It would be awesome to see as many people there as possible, it should be a great night.
What can we expect to see next from City To Shoreline in 2009?
We are still quite a new band discovering our sound, but you will definitely see us gigging on the Coast and in Brisbane. And hopefully having our songs polished by the end of the year for an EP in the near future.
CITY TO SHORELINE play 1ST Out Bands4Benefit at the Sands Tavern on Saturday Jul 11, alongside Daylight Has A Curfew, Technical Simplicity and more. www.myspace.com/citytoshoreline
