Impressive EP from heavy-rocking WA lads
Gas is the third in a series of ‘elemental’ releases from
Perth rockers State Of Order. They travel down a few different avenues of hard
rock over five songs. Voyeur kicks off in style with some heavy riffs and
frantic drumming. Things are slowed down a bit for the space-ier The Wall and
slow-burning Over My Head, showing a preference for ballads over brutality much
like contemporaries Birds of Tokyo and the Butterfly Effect. There is a strong
groove felt throughout Gas and vocalist/guitarist Rob’s smooth vocals
compliment this nicely. Final track Acousima heads into prog territory and sees
the band effectively fuse the elements exhibited on the first four tracks to
create something a bit more epic. If their live show matches this effort they
should soon see themselves rubbing shoulders with the likes of Boge and Kenny,
et al.
