Emerging band 'BusbyMarou' wows Brisbane music goers PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 04 August 2009
Queensland's up and coming rock and roots band, BusbyMarou, wowed a sell-out crowd at 'Emergence' in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley on Saturday night, 1st August 2009.

'Emergence', hosted by Busby Marou, with special guests Jo Kelly Stephenson and Stevie Geyer, showcased Australia's next harvest of emerging roots/folk/alt-county contemporary musicians.

Celebrities such as Bronco's players Sam Thaiday, Peter Wallace and Nic Kelly along with acclaimed music producer Anthony Lycenko (Pete Murray, David Bowie, Rollerball) were treated to an amazing musical ride with BusbyMarou's mix of smooth and mellow tunes and upbeat acoustic grooves.

BusbyMarou rocked out with a number of original songs from their first EP, 'The Blue Road' (produced by Anthony Lycenko with the help of Australian singer songwriter, Pete Murray) including the popular acoustic rock songs 'Underlying Message' and 'Something for Me'.

The songs all reflected Tom Busby's amazing song writing abilities and his distinctly Australian way of sharing stories. Lines like, "like sleeping on a train, when there's nothing else at stake," are easy to relate to and connected immediately with the crowd.

The unbelieveable harmonies and chemistry between gifted musicians Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou were unforgettable and Jeremy bought out the ukelele to entice the crowd. Tom's onstage charisma combined with the band's presence got the crowd on their feet. With Mike Cavendish on bass and Mark Whitfield on drums completing the line up, BusbyMarou, put on a performance that left the crowd wanting more.

The night had a couple of special highlights when female volcalist, Margie Schmidt, made an appearance for the song 'Undecided Mind' to sing the lead and Brett Gibson belted out the harmonica for 'Seeing you soon'.

BusbyMarou have a handful of shows under their belt including performances at the Brisbane Powerhouse,
Empire Theatre and many festivals, including NAIDOC week and have supported Pete Murray on his latest Aussie tour. BusbyMarou will also be performing at the Woodford Folk and Dreaming Festivals at the end of the year.

Recently announced as one of five successful recipients of the Australian Governments ‘Breakthrough Initiative’ aiming to assist the country's finest emerging, indigenous, contemporary musicians, BusbyMarou are set to break into the commercial music industry.

BusbyMarou list their influences as Crowded House, Creedance Clearwater Revival and REM.

BusbyMarou can be seen around a number of Queensland venues over the next few months and their EP 'The Blue Road' is out now. The EP can be purchased
