- Grammy-winning producer, member of Brit prog-rockers Gong, and new head of music at QUT, the estimable Mike Howlett, will team with Brisbane producer Magoo for a free Music Stimulants discussion event at the Brisbane Powerhouse Turbine Platform today (Tuesday) from 6pm. The music industry professionals will discuss the role of producers in crafting music; joined by singer-songwriter Lauren Crick – who will bravely allow her songs to be examined from a producer’s perspective.

Cherry Red Music Nights showcase the music of up and coming local and national artists every Wednesday night for free at UQ’s 2nd Degree Bar. The pop-rocky notes of The Nones, mellow New Manic Spree and bluesy sounds of the The Levons will be featured this week.
- Tim Loydell & The Deckchairs will be bringing their charming folk-rock to The Loft, Gold Coast, this Thursday, and then The Globe on Saturday with Dallas Frasca. The Deckchairs will be sharing some new material from their debut LP at the shows.
- Jazz trio Misinterprotato will be performing for free at the Queensland Academy For Creative Industries (QACI) as part of the QACI concert series. The event is all-ages and commences at 7:30pm this Friday. Head to www.misinterprotato.com for more details.
- Set a course for The Clarence Corner Hotel on Saturday for the mind-boggling Rock Against Psychedelia. Featuring Pineapples From The Dawn Of Time, Old Order (CD Launch), The Stress Of Leisure, and a psychedelic light show that will spin you out, you’d be crazy not to check out this free event.

The local Global Battle Of The Bands heats roll into UQ’s 2nd Degree Bar this Saturday from 5pm, then the Hard Rock Café in Surfers Paradise on Sunday from 2pm.
- Another new indie disco night kicks off this Saturday at The Step Inn, with Magazine promising straight up indie/alt hits with “no messing about”. Punters with pre-bought tickets for the Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers / Little Scout show on the same night at The Troubadour can enter Magazine for half price.
- The Little Lovers are returning to home territory this weekend with their entertainingly-titled sophomore EP (so) ‘Look Out! Mufha Farkrrz, it’s the...’ The trio hit Ric’s on Saturday night with good friends Extra Foxx.
- Heading to Australia for the first time ever, the highly reputed all-male dance crew JabbaWockeeZ will be hitting the stage at Brisbane City Hall on Sunday.
