ImageKENNY VASOLI, the lead singer for of THE STARTING LINE, visiting soon for some solo acoustic dates as PERSON L.

This will be your second time touring Australia, but your first as a solo performer. Do you approach touring any differently when you’re playing on your own?

It will take a bit of practicing on my own and refreshing myself on some lyrics. It’s nice to only worry about my voice and guitar, on the other hand it leaves me very vulnerable because there will be nothing to cover my mistakes.

You released an acoustic version of The Starting Line’s hit Best Of Me several years ago, so acoustic interpretations of your music is nothing new. How have you progressed as a solo performer in the years since?

Well, now I have much more material to work with. Since I have been playing guitar in person. I’ve definitely come further along with my playing. I’m much more comfortable being on stage with just six strings nowadays.

Was touring a place like Australia as a solo artist a personal goal for you or an unexpected opportunity?

I love Australia, since the Soundwave Festival I’ve been dying to come back. I normally prefer travelling and performing with a band, but when the opportunity arose for me to come back playing solo I knew I had jump at it. I love playing music, being able to do it in a beautiful foreign country is a no-brainer, and a real gift.

What is it about playing acoustically that you cannot get in other avenues of musical performance?

The intimacy of playing acoustic is really nice; it’s good to give the old eardrums a breather. I like having complete freedom with my set list, I’ll be able to try a few covers and dust off some Starting Line songs I haven’t sung in a while.

Anything else you want to do while you’re in Australia that you might not have been able to do last time around?

Maybe the koala park, I know my girlfriend would love that. I’m interested in seeing where the locals hang out and get crazy. Maybe the Mission In Motion guys can show me where the party is happening. I’d like to say THANK YOU to that band and their camp for having me out!

Tickets are on sale now for KENNY VASOLI/PERSON L’s Saturday Oct 17 date at Rosie’s Thriller (with The Mission In Motion), and his Sunday Oct 18 afternoon all ages show at Top Floor Galleries in the CBD.
