LIL' FI, JAMES T & THE TOMAHAWKS & THE HIPSHOOTERS
On Sunday 10th January celebrate with Lil' Fi, James T (Ex Canned Heat) & The Tomahawks plus The Hipshooters at Big Blues Sunday at The Tyalgum Hotel (Google it and come on in!) from 2 pm to 6 pm. Families are very welcome at the gig in the beer garden in 2 acres of landscaped grounds - with a fenced saltwater pool . Free entry - watch the bands, take a dip & enjoy the beautiful scenery of the McPherson Range & Mt Warning. Come say Happy Birthday to Lil' Fi!
Lil' Fi - singer/songwriter performing original Australian roots/blues music. Nothing compares to her feel good energy & she believes in the healing power of music as evidenced in her shows. Lil' Fi also plays stand up drums, draped in feather boas and flowers, & considers every venue to be a part of her lounge room, drawing audiences into her world with delightful storytelling and music. 5 times Best Female Vocalist - Australian Blues Music Awards, 7 independently produced albums, & opened for blues royalty B.B King on 2 visits to Australia. Lil' Fi is now a local resident!
"What a performer.... Lil' Fi's halogen smile and exhilarating style soon lit up the room. She's a lass with sass all right, she slapped at the drums, banged on the piano, she lassoed the high notes, then got down mean and throaty. She's a spirit-raiser, with enough natural charisma to electrify a morticians' convention. Every toe was tapping to her original songs...." (John Jenkins EL)
James T (James Thornbury) began his music career in Cincinnati and by 25 was playing guitar, harmonica and singing in bands across USA. He spent a decade racking up live experience in the bars and roadhouses of Oregon and Washington State, met Henry Vestine from Canned Heat, & joined them for 10 years playing rhythm guitar, bottle neck guitar and harmonica, plus lead vocals. Now Australia has James T with his twin neck Web guitar, residing in north NSW coast. James T & The Tomahawks have just released their self titled album, performing songs from it to enthusiastic crowds. Blues from the border ranges.
The Hipshooters are NZ exports with a jolt of Texas Blues, stinging guitar solos, smooth funk & voodoo groove with high charged R 'n' B flavours. They are a dynamic 3-piece electric blues rock band formed in Auckland in 1993 & Brisbane based from 1995 although Anton currently resides in NZ. The Hipshooters play electrifying blues with a Texas/Hendrix edge. Anton Tipi Elkington scorches on lead guitar, Billy Williams on bass evokes a groovy thrumming city sized generator with Aussie drummer John Forbes, doing original high charged R ‘n’ B. They have 3 cd’s, Aust Blues Awards for Best Band / Song 2002 and continue playing to fantastic responses at music festivals and have been confirmed as headliner for the 18th Annual Brisbane Blues Festival in mid-March 2010. Get up and dance - the blues is all about feeling good.
The Hotel will have the bistro running from midday through to 7 pm. Historic Tyalgum Hotel opened in 1926 and is 22 km west of Murwillumbah on Coolman Street, Tyalgum. Sue Kilcoyne, the host, said she is absolutely thrilled to have this great line-up on the one bill and is so looking forward to it with such an amazing array of talent.
