ISAAC and THORRY KOREN from Australian-born, now New York-based alternative duo, THE KIN, answer a few questions for RAVE.
Moving from Adelaide to New York seems pretty obvious – was it because Adelaide sucks and New York doesn’t?
Well, the whole truth is that we skipped town on Adelaide to Sydney while in primary school. The move to NYC was to finish high school and Uni. After school we started The Kin, jamming in our living room in NYC.
How does it feel heading home to tour?
We have now seen 48 states of America and played in over 35 of them. It just means that much more to us to tour back home.
Has being Australian helped you guys overseas?
We once used our Aussie accents for getting out of a speeding ticket in Georgia. It may have also have been part of the reason we toured with Rod Stewart this Summer, a big part of his crew was Aussie.
What’s the secret to an epic chorus?
Gosh, not sure ... a simple lyric, soaring melody and a big guitar ‘on the one’.
Do you play-up your Aussie accents for the ladies?
We actually play-up our accents all the time, mostly to check if they are still there. But yes, the accent does seem to have soft powers abroad. Our favourite to try on unsuspecting foreigners is the rough ‘rural’ Australian accent … it usually gets them going!
Will you have a backing band for your Australian dates?
Yes, we will have a band. We like to split the show into half acoustic and half full band.
Isaac, does it annoy you that Thorry is more classically handsome? Thorry, do you wish you were as pretty as Isaac?
This and other rivalries are at the very core of our musical chemistry together....
THE KIN play The Troubadour on Thursday Jan 7 with Saving Grace. Their album, THE UPSIDE, is available independently. www.myspace.com/thekin
