ImageThis year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival will no doubt be all about THE MCCLYMONTS as the three sisters host the 2010 Australian Country Music Awards and stand to take out three categories, as MOLLIE MCCLYMONT tells BIRDIE.

It’s their time, all right. To add to what is clearly looking to be the biggest year for the trio so far, the girls are about to release the follow-up to debut Chaos And Bright Lights and return to the country that is fast becoming the band’s second home: America.

“Americans definitely get what we’re doing,” claims Mollie. “Even though nothing beats your own home in Australia, it’s still a place where I think I could live. Nashville especially is so incredible. It’s non-stop country, 24-7! Every bar plays country music, every store plays country music, every home plays country music… We’re obsessed with country music so of course we loved Nashville, because we live and breathe it!”

After recording their breakthrough album three years ago in Nashville with Adam Anders, The McClymonts made the trek back to the city where the magic initially happened, and employed the services of not one but two producers on sophomore album Wrapped Up Good.

“It sounds strange that we used two producers but there’s an explanation for it!” laughs Mollie. “We used Adam to record our first album with which we were really happy, but then Nathan [Chapman], who is also Taylor Swift’s producer, really wanted to work with us but only had time to do about four tracks. So Adam and Nathan, being good friends, were happy to split up the work. They’re two of the most talented people in the world – you don’t even have to say anything in the studio, they just know how to transform songs into gold.”

It wasn’t only Anders and Chapman who lent their talents to Wrapped Up Good – The McClymonts also had the opportunity to co-write with legendary country music songwriters like Trey Bruce, Erinn Sherlock and Tommy-Lee James.

“We approached the album like it could potentially be the last album we ever got to make!” Mollie reveals. “We had such a positive mind-frame during the making of this album because of the people we got to work with but also because of the good things going on for us personally. Brooke had just got married, we had grown up as people since the last album, and the songs were just more positive and happy so the album is a lot more upbeat as well. There are only about three slower songs on there which I think is a reflection of us growing up and being in a different stage of our lives.”

Following the Tamworth Country Music Festival this month, The McClymonts will hit the road across Australia on the back of Wrapped Up Good, only to return to the States once again in mid-2010, as Mollie announces.
“The record company and management and the people in America loved our first album just as much as the people at home, so I am very excited to bring this new one over. It’s a hard industry in America especially, but the advice we got was to do what you do best, and you can’t go wrong. It’s what we’ve been doing so far.”

THE MCCLYMONTS come through Queensland on their Wrapped Up Good tour, playing at Caloundra RSL on Wednesday Feb 17, Toowoomba City Golf Club on Thursday Feb 18 and Kedron Wavell Ex Services Club on Friday Feb 19. WRAPPED UP GOOD is available now through Universal. www.themcclymonts.net
