Classixx / Mitzi DJS / Tropics / Wolfgang DJS vs Charlie Why! / Misère / Card Houses / Tim Fuchs PDF Print E-mail

BarSoma - Sat Feb 13

Owing to both space constraints and the fact that Lick It shows always enlist a veritable army of talented support acts, I can’t give each support act – Mitzi DJs, Tropics, Wolfgang  DJs vs. Charlie Why!, Misère, Card Houses and Tim Fuchs – the full write-up that they deserve. Suffice it to say that by the time the headliners take control of the booth the crowd is very much ready to party.

And, of course, partying is what Classixx do best, opening with a slew of blog-house and disco edits squarely aimed at making the audience cut a rug. Their relentlessly trendy selections combined with their name poses an interesting question, though: what does it take for a track to become a classic? Classixx answer by eschewing Larry Levan or Frankie Knuckles cuts for more recent numbers such as A-Trak’s remix of Sébastien Tellier’s Kilometer. Towards the end of the set they start dropping their own hotly-anticipated tracks: I’ll Get You receives an ecstatic crowd response, before the tempo is lowered for their well-known remix of Phoenix’s Lizstomania. They close, surprisingly, with their remix of YACHT’s Psychic City, a track that effectively shows off their soft-synth production chops and brings the evening to a satisfying close.
