The cream of local underground DJs bring you their top 5 tunes of the moment: this week it’s DE LA HAYE, queen of broken beats and the driving force behind Junglettes and brizbass.com.
1. BREAKAGE & ROOTS MANUVA – Run ‘Em Out: Separately they’re awesome, so together = double win. Half-step drum & bass beat with vocals by Roots Manuva giving it dancehall flavours.
2. BREAKAGE FEAT. NEWHAM GENERALS & DAVID RODIGAN – Hard: ‘Ard! Can’t get enough of this one ... Absolutely wicked dubstep from Breakage, the Newham Generals bringin’ back the grime flavours in the vocals. These two Breakage tunes are from the much anticipated forthcoming album Foundation on Digital Soundboy.
3. ARP XP – Surrealism: Italy’s ARP XP brings the deep drum & bass with this minimal stepper. Nice atmospherics and heavy worbing sub.
4. LUNG – Afterlife: Lung’s debut dubstep release on label Kokeshi has vocals so deep and haunting it freaks my cat out! Super deep vibes.
5. GRAND PUBA – Get It (Caspa’s Eighties Remix): Getting more of a smooth west-coast gangster rap feel myself. Seriously nice dubstep tune, chilled hip hop styles.
DE LA HAYE plays Boom! at Empire on Saturday Mar 27. Check out www.myspace.com/junglettes and www.brizbass.com for more info.
