Dean Dirt produces one last dirty rock record

Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that feet are for stomping, guitars can handle loads of punishment and the veins on your neck won’t pop, even if you sing really, really loud. Get Some Fuckin’ Rest, which opens The Mourning Son’s debut, Pipedreams, reinforces these truths, much like The Vasco Era did with their 2007 debut. However, while The Vasco Era got by with bluesy brute force, this Melbourne foursome have taken a more melodic, grungier, path. Bad Conversation’s riffs invoke The Stooges while Burn Motherfucker Burn’s juggernaut rhythm section could be from a dirty Eagles Of Death Metal bootleg. Frontman Dave Fazza’s raspy howls, and the loose, scuzzed-out lead guitar define the band’s sound, and the production – care of the late Dean Turner – unashamedly accentuates these elements. With 14 tracks spread over an hour, wear your comfiest rock boots. All that stomping is bound to take its toll.
