Music and wine under the stars - just the recipe for an idyllic autumn evening.

Logan City Council is treating residents to such an evening on Saturday May 1 with the ever-popular Jazz and Shiraz.

A highlight of the city's 2010 Mayfest celebrations, Jazz and Shiraz will be held at the Kingston Butter Factory on May 1, and the free showcase of Queensland musical talent is sure to delight residents.

Mayfest is proudly sponsored by Logan City Council and Quest Community Newspapers.

Customer Service, Marketing and Parks Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lynne Clarke (Division 7) said Jazz and Shiraz was a great way for families to relax, unwind and have a dance to celebrate the Labour Day long weekend.

"This event has proved to be one of the most popular on the Mayfest calendar since it began in 2005," she said.

"And this year is set to be bigger than ever with some excellent performers on the bill and a great setting at the Kingston Butter Factory.

"I would encourage all music fans to get their tickets as soon as they can to ensure they get a spot at this magnificent event."

Kicking things off with a bang at the event will be Jahbutu, a high-energy duo who will roam through the crowds with their steel pans, playing uplifting Afro-Caribbean beats.

The band's manager, Gilbert Garay, said the audience could expect an unforgettable experience from the group.

"It is definitely a performance people will enjoy, the sounds that these guys make with their steel drums are happy, infectious and really quite unusual," he said.

"A lot of people never get to hear these instruments played live and I think the audience is in for a surprise."

Jahbutu are Jorge Morales, from Puerto Rico, and Alvin Rostant, from Trinidad.

"They know this music so well and it will be an exotic, lively experience to open this event," said Gilbert.

"The band dances and moves, and will be moving through the audience - it will be an unusual, exceptional performance."

Alongside Jahbutu is world fusion ensemble The View From Madeleine's Couch, nine-piece funk and blues band Charlie Horse Funk Band, and The West End Composer's Collective, a group of Brisbane's most creative improvising musicians.

Jazz and Shiraz is a free event. It takes place at Kingston Butter Factory, Milky Way, Kingston, on May 1, from 4pm - 8pm.
