The bass-warping boys in DANK MORASS are back with five fresh and classic tunes to shake the stacks.
1. Angelo Badalamenti – Twin Peaks Theme (Warner): The perfect ominous intro. As soporific as a lullaby, but dense with foreboding.
2. Alex B – Murked (Jus’ Like Music/Apple Juice Break): Beat blogs Jus’ Like Music and Apple Juice Break compile 40 tracks with heavy lilt and give them away as Oscillations. Alex B is resplendent in rattling percussion and understated bass buzz.
3. Joker – Tron VIP (Kapsize): Formulaic? If strict adherence to 140bpm and an unhealthy obsession with woozy synths is a formula, is there any way we can get a drip feed of it?
4. Jneiro Jarel - Shadoze (Label Who): The man also known as ‘Dr Who Dat?’ goes deep and dark with this sludgy industrial dirge.
5. Gang Starr – Just to Get a Rep (Chrysalis): Brothers aren’t amused by attempts to retrospectively tarnish the Gang Starr legacy. Reminisce over this perfect combination of the late Guru’s storytelling and Premier’s boom-bap.
